WinterFest
HIP’s WinterFest began in 2006 and is held the last full weekend of January-a time of year when most of us are experiencing cabin fever. It’s a great opportunity to get out of the house and join your neighbors and friends for a lot of fun.
Everyone is welcome and all activities are FREE!
The 2009 weekend began on Friday night with a chili cookoff, cup cake contest and pet photo contest, all accompanied by live music. Saturday was filled with activities held at the Island Community Center and, in 2009, included performances by juggler extraordinaire Randy Judkins; exciting hands-on experience with spiders, frogs, snakes, lizards and many other critters brought to us by Tony Sohns of the Maine Discovery Museum; live music all day long; a cribbage tournament, and many activities and demonstrations from face painting to knot tying and many more. Saturday night brought an astonishing fireworks exhibit at the Stonington ballfield, followed by a family friendly dance at the Stonington Opera House with great music by the Free Radicals. Sunday included a 2 on 2 Basketball tournament and a bonfire with hot dogs and cocoa. WinterFest 2009 had over 1,200 attendees over the three days of events!
WinterFest 5 is going to be even bigger and better than last year’s. Besides all of the regular WinterFest activities, we will be showcasing new performers, new musicians, a 3 on 3 double elimination basketball tournament, and much more. WinterFest 5 will be held January 22, 23, and 24th, 2010.
