Many of you may have been aware that in January 2015 the Deer Isle Plus Board dissolved and Deer Isle Plus became a program of Healthy Island Project. Helen McKinnon continued as the administrator through 2015. However, at this point, the HIP Board has voted not to maintain Deer Isle Plus. The decision was based on HIP’s limited time/budget, ongoing commitments and the waning membership and interest on the part of island residents.

It is HIP’s hope that the growing “aging in place” movement will pick up where Deer Isle Plus left off. Marnie Crowell, the founder and force behind Deer Isle Plus, was ahead of the times as now there seems to be more resources, educational materials, and acknowledgement of needs.
